BASF is among the leading producers and suppliers of fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins. Vitamin B12 is part of our premium vitamin product range. This water-soluble vitamin has been well-known for decades in applications in the dietary supplement, food, infant nutrition and beverage markets. Our extensive experience gives our products best-in-class flowability and dispensability properties.
Vitamin B12 plays an important general role in growth and well-being, as well as for heart, brain and cognitive function at all life stages. Some lifestyle groups, such as vegans and vegetarians, are at risk of vitamin B12 deficiency due to a lack of vitamin B12 in their diets. Elderly people (10-30%) often have vitamin B12 malabsorption, as do people with certain diseases. Supplementation for better general health can be recommended for these lifestyle groups.
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is a water-soluble vitamin which occurs naturally only in animal-derived foods, such as meat, fish, eggs, cheese and milk.
Our world-class technologies and processes let us produce powdered products with best-in-class flowability and dispensability properties. Our vitamin B12 formulations include several concentrations with excellent flowability and stability in final applications, such as multivitamin tablets.
Our gelatin-free dry powder products are also suitable for food and beverage fortification and are stable for at least 36 months at room temperature.
Our products are suitable for vegetarians/vegans. We offer allergen-free, gluten-free, certified kosher and halal products to accommodate consumer needs. Our products meet the highest quality standards and the active ingredient Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) complies with the major monographs (USP, Ph.Eur., etc.).
BASF vitamin B12 products are particularly suitable for use in tablets and hard capsules. Due to the small particle size and relatively low vitamin B12 content of the dry powder, the vitamin can be distributed very homogeneously even in formulations with a low active content. The product is suitable for use in powder preparations which are dissolved in water prior to use.
Our products can also be added to a large number of food products such as food for babies and small children, food products for athletes, dietetic products, milk powder/skimmed milk1, multi-vitamin juices, drink powders, confectionery and breakfast cereal. It is often used in combination with other vitamins, particularly the B-complex vitamins. The dry powder is especially suitable for use in powdered food products that are dissolved in water or milk prior to use. It can also be used in vitamin mixtures in the food ingredients industry.
Vitamin B12 1% SD can be applied to skimmed milk, and Vitamin B12 0.1% SD can be applied to milk powder.
Vitamin B12 is a co-factor for two enzymes required for cell replication, for the formation of red blood cells and for the myelinization of nerve cells. Thus, it is important for growth and well-being in general, but also for heart, brain and cognitive functions at all life stages.
