Divergan®: Create crystal clear beer & wine

There is a simple and clear answer to turbidities: BASF’s Divergan® range! Special Divergan® types help you to avoid haze and create beverages with reduced polyphenol content.
Easily. Efficiently. Economically.

Divergan® is BASF’s standard processing aid for the filtration and stabilization of beer and wine. Even after filtration, clear beverages contain dissolved phenolic compounds and proteins that, after a relatively short time, form complexes that subsequently lead to turbidity. Divergan® removes phenolic compounds without altering the character of your beer or wine. BASF produces Divergan® by popcorn polymerization of PVP. It is insoluble in water, acids, bases, and organic solvents.

We offer you traditional German brewing expertise combined with knowledge and competence in filtration and stabilization. The result: improved clarity and stability, great appearance, pure taste, and a long shelf life.

While the major applications are beer and wine, Divergan® can also be used in further applications such as fruit juice and tea. Depending on the manufacturing conditions, coarse or fine grain products are obtained, which differ in their application properties.

Divergan® is available as the regenerable grade Divergan® RS mainly used for beer stabilization, and as the single-use grade Divergan® F for beer and wine.

What makes Divergan® an excellent choice for your products and applications?

  • A unique, patented production process
  • An eco-efficient, single-use and regenerable solution that’s easy and safe to handle and dispose
  • Highly selective adsorption of polyphenols
  • A clean label: Divergan® is completely separated from the beverage during filtration and thus, does not have to be declared on the label
  • Long shelf life and consistently high-quality product
  • More than 150 years of experience in the human nutrition industry and extensive expertise in the application of Divergan®

Going green with Divergan®

Indirect emissions (Scope 3), resulting from upstream processes along the value chain make up the largest share of total emissions for breweries. These emissions are largely from packaging and processing including purchased raw materials from suppliers. Through buying Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) we have now been able to considerably reduce the product carbon footprint of Divergan®: The use of green electricity reduces the CO2 equivalents (CO2e) for Divergan® by 17%.

Therewith, we support our customers in meeting their COemission reduction targets while we are one step further on our own way to net zero 2050.
