Vitamin B5: An essential micronutrient for healthy energy and fitness

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is an essential micronutrient which is widely found in foods of plant and animal origin such as meat, dairy, grains and vegetables. In humans, vitamin B5 plays a central role in energy production and healthy metabolism of lipids, carbohydrates and proteins. Moreover, vitamin B5 is essential to the production of steroid hormones, neurotransmitter acetylcholine, melatonin and heme. Thereby, it is indirectly involved in the regulation of major bodily systems such as nerves, muscles and glands, healthy sleep-wake rhythm and normal oxygen supply in tissues. Vitamin B5 deficiency is rare.

Vitamin B5 is included in infant formulas and clinical nutrition, in dietary supplements like B-complexes and multivitamin supplements and in functional foods and beverages such as energy drinks, sports nutrition, breakfast cereals. Today’s consumers are leading busier and more hectic lifestyles. They believe high energy levels are required to meet the needs of their daily lives and know the importance of B-vitamins in energy production. Globally, 60% of consumers are very familiar with B-vitamins and understand their benefits. B-vitamins can be a safe choice for consumers and are widely used in end-consumer products.

BASF’s vitamin B5 complies with pharmaceutical standards (CEP available) and shows consistent high quality. High concentration of the active ingredient means this ingredient can be used in numerous applications.
