Vitamin B5: An essential micronutrient for healthy energy supply

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is an essential micronutrient.

It is widely found in foods of plant and animal origin such as meat, dairy, grains and vegetables.

In humans, vitamin B5 plays a central role in energy production and healthy metabolism of lipids, carbohydrates and proteins.

Moreover, vitamin B5 is indirectly involved in the regulation of major bodily systems such as nerves, muscles and glands, healthy sleep-wake rhythm and normal oxygen supply in tissues.

Vitamin B5 is included in dietary supplements like B-complexes and multivitamin supplements, and in functional foods and beverages such as energy drinks, sports nutrition, breakfast cereals.
