Food Fortification

Malnutrition is a major public health burden affecting ~ 3 billion people worldwide. 

According to the WHO (2025), Vitamin A is among the most important micronutrients related to public health. Insufficient supply of vitamin A is a major threat to the health and development of populations across the globe. 

Fortifying staple foods is an effective solution to improve the nutritional status, particularly among low-income population groups. Food fortification is done by adding one or more essential nutrients to commonly consumed foods, such as oil or flour.

As of 2025, more than 90 countries have mandatory fortification of staple foods. Food fortification is an investment in the future as it contributes to a healthier society in developing and emerging countries.
