Embrace the power of beta-carotene for more success in lifestock farming.
Beta-carotene is a micronutrient that plays an important role in animals: (1) as a pro-vitamin with the ability to convert into vitamin A; (2) as an antioxidant that helps protect cells against oxidative stress; (3) due to its positive impact on the immune system; and (4) supporting healthy reproduction in cows and swine. Furthermore, due to its yellow-orange color beta-carotene can be used for pigmentation in shrimp and for coloring of pet feed.
Animals rely on their diet to obtain beta-carotene because they cannot synthesize it themselves. For grazing animals, fresh fodder is the primary source of provitamin A, as it is rich in beta-carotene. However, major losses of beta-carotene occur during drying, preservation, and storage of green fodder. Feedstuffs based on soybean, cereals, and mill feeds generally contain little to no beta-carotene. Therefore, adding beta-carotene supplements helps optimizing the nutritional value of feeds.
