Extraordinary Engineering: A giant's journey ends in success

The largest tower of its kind in the region Asia-Pacific, stands in a chemical production site in Kuantan, Malaysia -- after traveling down the Yangtze River and through the South China Sea, the column will help the new BASF PETRONAS Chemicals’ integrated aroma ingredients complex in Gebeng to ensure the large production of L-menthol for customers in the fragrance and flavor and pharmaceutical industries, in the Asia Pacific region and worldwide.

The cool freshness of menthol

Menthol is the very essence of freshness. Whether in toothpaste, chewing gum or candies, the minty taste of the world's most-sold flavor ingredient can be found in countless everyday products. But menthol owes its popularity not only to its fresh taste, but also to its cooling effect on the skin and mucous membranes. This is why it is often used for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics like cooling ointments, inhalations, deodorants and shower gels.
