Covitol® - our Range of Naturally Sourced Vitamin E Products
BASF is one of the leading companies in producing synthetic vitamin E. With decades of experience we developed a science-based product range of high-quality products with best-in-class flowability and dispersability. Covitol® - our natural vitamin E product range – is used in various dietary supplement and beverage applications. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect against cell damage and helps maintain cellular functions.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin which is important for normal immune system functions. As an antioxidant, it helps protect against cell damage and helps maintain cellular functions.
However, scientific studies indicate that vitamin E intake above recommended levels may have beneficial effects on the immune system, especially in individuals with compromised immune function, such as elderly persons. Vitamin E also plays an important role for all life stages including pre-term infants, pregnant woman, children and elderly persons.
Naturally sourced vitamin E matches growing consumer interest in naturally sourced products and is the perfect solution for space-restrictive formulations that demand a high-potency vitamin E.

Sources of vitamin E
Vitamin E is present in small quantities in modern diets, since vitamin E rich foods have high fat content (seeds, grains, plant oils). Therefore, globally, a large part of the population has vitamin E blood levels below the desirable value.
What makes BASF’s vitamin E products unique?
With over 45 years of experience in purification and application of vitamin E products, we provide a reliable, consistent, and high-quality supply. We extend our user-friendliness to a manufacturing level with an encapsulation option that serves as protection from interaction with other active ingredients. Our esterified forms provide additional protection from light, heat, and oxygen in the processing phase and final product.
In addition to our straight vitamins, BASF also offers several grades of vitamin–blends (e.g. vitamin A, E, D3).
BASF’s naturally sourced Covitol® enables flexible applications of vitamin E in dietary supplements and beverages. Our Covitol® products are used in several dietary supplement applications such as soft gelatin capsules, gels or shots as well as in beverage applications. All our Covitol® products maintain neutral flavor and texture.
We offer powder and liquid forms, as well as varying concentrations of d-alpha tocopherol to suit the several application needs.
Health benefits of vitamin E
Vitamin E, referring to all compounds exhibiting biological activity of alpha-tocopherols, is an antioxidant that helps protect against cell damage. It is located in cell membranes, where it protects fatty acids against oxidation and thereby helps maintain cellular functions. This yields a number of universally recognized health benefits.
Studies have shown the beneficial effects of vitamin E in various health areas, such as heart, brain and cognitive function, immunity, metabolic support, eye, liver and skin health. Vitamin E also reduces the probability of pregnancy-related disorders. Although recommendations vary from country to country, most populations have an insufficiency. Regular intake of vitamin E supplements can be recommended if a person’s vitamin E blood levels are not optimal, or to maintain a good vitamin E status.
