Tablets are among the delivery forms most widely used for dietary supplements around the world. To serve our customers’ needs in the best way, our products can be used in five different types of tablets: swallowable, chewable, effervescent, orally disintegrating, and lozenge. We offer a wide range of health ingredients for the use in all five types.
Tablets are one of the most common product forms for dietary supplements as well as the most shelf-stable.
Consumers prefer swallowable tablets that have a comfortable size, since these tablets must be swallowed whole in order to be fully effective. Swallowable tablets are mostly designed to release their active ingredients into the body slowly over an extended period of time. If a swallowable tablet is crushed, split, or chewed, a large amount of the active ingredients may be released all at once. This can cause the tablets to not work properly. Ideally, they should be taken with a liquid, preferably water.
Many consumers, e.g. children and elderly people, have difficulties swallowing tablets whole. Chewable tablets are therefore a good alternative. They have to be broken and chewed before ingestion. Usually, chewable tablets disintegrate smoothly in the mouth and have a pleasant taste. Moreover, no water is needed when taking them, which means consumers can take them at any time or place.
Effervescent tablets are designed to break on contact with water or another liquid, releasing carbon dioxide. Since they are taken with a liquid, effervescent tablets allow for very fast absorption of the nutrients and are especially helpful for consumers with reduced gastric fluid production. They are also a convenient alternative for people who have problems swallowing solid tablets (dysphagia).
Many consumers, e.g. children and elderly people, have difficulties swallowing tablets whole. ODTs are therefore an excellent alternative since they ‘melt away’ on the tongue within a few seconds; such ODTs have an effect similar to soft-serve ice cream. This product form has a nice and smooth texture and a pleasant mouthfeel. Moreover, no water is needed when taking them, which means consumers can take them at any time or place.
Lozenge tablets or pastilles are a small, usually sweetened and flavored medicated delivery format that is designed to be held in the mouth for slow dissolution. Similar to ODTs, these tablets do not require intake of liquids.
