Natugrain® TS
Natugrain® TS improves the nutritive value of diets containing NSP-rich components.
Non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) are virtually indigestible compounds in vegetable feedstuffs used for pig and poultry nutrition. Their anti-nutritional effects reduce the efficiency of the feeds by trapping valuable nutrients, thus preventing them from being digested. Since the activity of endogenous digestive enzymes is limited, this results in sticky droppings and impaired litter quality. This, in turn, may lead to poor hygienic conditions and, in layers, to a higher percentage of dirty eggs.
Why should Natugrain® TS be added to the feed?
Natugrain® TS, the feed enzyme product from BASF, contains the highly purified NSP-splitting enzymes endo-1,4-beta-xylanase and endo-1,4-beta-glucanase. Due to well- balanced enzyme activities, Natugrain® TS is well suited to counteract the anti-nutritional effects from pentosans and beta-glucans that constitute the major part of NSPs in commonly used feed-stuffs. Natugrain® TS improves the nutritive value of diets containing NSP-rich components such as wheat, barley, rye, triticale, oat, sunflower, and a number of milling by-products. Trials have shown that Natugrain® TS can also be effective in corn / soy diets by releasing additional energy.
Natugrain® TS supports a more sustainable livestock production by improving the digestibility of cereals.
Key benefits of Natugrain® TS
- Excellent efficacy in NSP-containing diets
- Outstanding heat stability of up to 85˚ C
- Excellent premix stability

Regulatory situation
High biological efficacy was one of the most decisive factors in the development of Natugrain® TS. Indeed, its convincing beneficial effects in the digestive tract of animals led to the approval by the European Commission of the Natugrain® TS formulation, for six animal species at one go: the dry-type Natugrain® TS. This offers the feed producer greater flexibility and many advantages since one product can be used for almost all NSP-enzyme-relevant diets.
Dosage recommendations
Natugrain® Wheat TS
Minimum dosage per kg of feed | Standard dosage per kg of feed | ||
---|---|---|---|
Broilers | 280 TXU | 560 TXU | |
Turkeys | 560 TXU | 560 TXU | |
Ducks | 280 TXU | 560 TXU | |
Ornamental birds and minor avian species except ducks, laying birds | 280 TXU | 560 TXU | |
280 TXU = 50 g per metric ton of feed 560 TXU = 100 g per metric ton of feed |
The economical optimal dosage rate, however, varies depending on the wheat, corn, and — probably — rye content of the diet, and is influenced by the costs and quality (anti-nutritional substances) of the raw material used. As a general guide line for wheat-based diets, the following dosage levels can be recommended:
Wheat in the diet | Dosage (TXU/kg feed) |
Up to 40% | 280 |
40-50% | 420 |
Over 50% | 560 |
