Lucantin® Yellow (C-30 ester)

Poultry cannot produce carotenoids on their own, which is why the color of egg yolks depends on the carotenoids combination in their diets. However, it is not only the quantity of pigments that matters but also their bioavailability and color intensity. With Lucantin® Yellow (C-30 ester) any egg yolk color between light pastel yellow and reddish is possible.

Why Lucantin® yellow?

With Lucantin® yellow (C-30 ester) any egg yolk color between light pastel yellow and dark orange is possible. But not only hue is important, color intensity counts, too. The human eye merges both attributes to one color impression, and the perfect pigmentation will always have to score on both levels.

Role in animal nutrition

In poultry, C­30 ester is used as a feed additive for pigmentation of egg yolks and broiler skin. It is the most efficacious yellow pigment available to poultry producers. In comparison with xanthophylls from plants, C­30 ester provides three times more coloring potential in egg yolks and 1.5 times better coloration when used in skin pigmentation.

Any variation (like subclinical diseases etc.) can lead to undesirable fluctuation in yolk color. And adding a little red pigment will not compensate for the lack of yellow, but may even lead to off-colored eggs. Therefore, when it comes to the level of yellow pigment in the hens’ diet, farmers should make sure that the level is high enough and remains consistent from one day to the next. Luckily, BASF Lucantin® is the right choice for both parts of the job.
