      Our 2'-FL is developed completely in-house and designed for large scale production. Research has shown that 2'-FL supports the development of healthy gut and immune system, protection against allergic diseases and plays a role in the development of normal brain functions and cognition in early life and beyond.

      2'-FL is a component of Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMO), complex carbohydrates that are naturally present in breast milk. HMOs have been identified as the key differentiating factor between human and bovine milk. For the majority of mothers, 2'-FL is the most abundant HMO in their breast milk.

      Human milk is the “gold standard” for infant nutrition. When compared with infant formula, breast-feeding leads to favorable results with respect to growth patterns, nutritional status, immune protection and long-term development outcomes. Thus a lot of efforts are made to narrow the nutritional gap between human milk and infant formula, which are largely based on cow's milk.

      The availability of 2'-FL for use in infant formula is an important milestone contributing to this objective.

      Health benefits of PREBILACTM 2'-FL

      2'-FL is the most thoroughly researched single HMO so far. In addition to observational studies suggesting strong associations between the presence of high levels of 2'-FL and positive health outcomes in infants, benefits have recently been substantiated in clinical and experimental trials.

      2'-FL has a strong bifidogenic effect and may thus promote the development of a beneficial microbiota. Experimental trials and clinical studies further suggest that 2'-FL plays a role in gut maturation, brain development and in modulating systemic immune functions.
